Zipolite is one of the highlights for a homosexual or nudist visitor to Mexico. It has Mexico's only authentic nude beach and the whole town is very gay approachable. The beautiful approximately 2 km long beach is fronted by a collection of beachside restaurants and hotels. Nudity is entirely accepted and normal on the entire beach as are displays of affection between same-sex couples.
The middle sections of the beach though are primarily straight and primarily clothed. The beach faces almost directly south so you can catch both beautiful sunrises and sunsets. At the west end of the beach is El Alquimista hotel and restaurant and Shambala. El Alquimista's beach restaurant is a popular male lover gathering spot and the rocks and beach in front are as well. The most same-sex attracted section (and the most nudist) is Playa del Amor, reached by walking to the far east side of the main beach, wading a small pond depending on the tide and then climbing a stairway up and back down to the small hidde

Queerly Beloved Travel
Zipolite has long been a veiled queer alternative to the uber-gay and commercialized Puerto Vallarta. It has infamously terrible wifi/phone reception, no ride-share apps, and relies heavily on cash. Getting to this gay hippie mecca isn’t easy either, but trust me it’s worth the hassle. Most visitors fly into Huatulco or Puerto Escondido where you can hire a taxi or take a windy bus through the hills. The taxi sit on from Huatulco takes an hour while the project from Puerto Escondido takes around hours depending on traffic. (Pro tip: Before you leave either airport make sure to stock up on cash. Most places in Zipolite only take it and many of the ATMs jog out quickly.)
Once you arrive in this paradise, you’ll find the country’s only legal nude beach that draws a homosexual and straight crowd baring it all under the blazing Oaxacan sun. There are numerous clothing-optional hotels and generally any lock on the beach is pretty loose about nudity, but make sure to throw on something when you saunter into town or you’ll get disgusting looks from the locals. Guide Zipolite Gay
Located on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Zipolite is a famous beach known as the only officially nudist beach in Mexico. Here, independence, tolerance, and diversity are a way of experience. For years, this laid-back seaside village has attracted an international LGBTQ+ society in search of realness and well-being.
Many hotels, bungalows, and guesthouses are owned by gay hosts or warmly welcome gay-friendly guests in an intimate and respectful setting. Beach bars, eco-chic restaurants, and moonlit parties complete the one-of-a-kind experience.
In Zipolite, you’re free to be yourself. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, solo, or with friends, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Nudity is allowed on the beach—but never required. The vibe is relaxed, kind, and far from mass tourism.
Every February, Zipolite hosts Nudist Week, a festive international gathering that attracts a joyful and inclusive queer crowd. Nearby villages like Mazunte and San Agustinillo are perfect for day trips, yoga sessions, or wellness breaks.
