Every year in June, cities around the world observe Celebration Month. The event honours the Stonewall uprising in Manhattan, when on June 28 police entered gay bar Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, a secure refuge where male lover men and lesbians could safely socialize, and took several patrons into custody. Although this wasn’t the first moment young members of the LGBTQ collective had faced harassment or discrimination, this event sparked forceful confrontations between bargoers and police that lasted for five days, becaming a symbol of LGBTQ solidarity. While Hong Kong still falls behind other nations in legally noticing gay partnerships, lgbtq+ fest events abound during June. Here, locate out where and how to rejoice Pride Month in Hong Kong.
Queer Celebration Festival
Africa Center Hong Kong’s Gender non-conforming Pride Festival will celebrate queer African voices, like Marsha P. Johnson and Simon Nkoli, who left resounding impacts in their communities (in the US and South Africa respectively). Pride
Temperatures in New York Municipality are expected to reach 89 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday, so wear sunscreen and dress appropriately for the heat.
The parade spotlights many activist and nonprofit groups, who march with signs and floats, but for many Celebration attendees, the best parts of the event aren't the celebration itself. In addition to the many people gathering as a community, the side streets on the parade route are filled with booths and stands where you can buy merchandise (such as flags, pins, and other trinkets) and food.
There is usually music, fun, and lots of glitter along the way! You will likely see many people, often with their partners and friends, wearing face paint and outfits in Pride colors.
After the main event is over, many attendees stick around to leave to parties. However, if you go right home when you’re done, be aware that the trains out of the metropolis will still be crowded.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at info@ Stay shielded and healthy, and happy Pride!
