If you want to feel incredibly welcome, free, and harmless, there is no better place to visit than an LGBTQ-friendly bar, no matter who you are. In Croatia, Zagreb is the most open and welcoming city. The next is Rijeka, generally recognized as the most liberal and tolerant Croatian city.
Some bars in Croatia are upfront about their LGBTQ-friendliness, and others are known for their long-standing reputation. There are also websites and Facebook communities aiming to support and connect people within the Croatian LGBTQIA+ community.

We spent 4 nights in the beautiful city of Split in Croatia and loved every minute.
Split is Croatia’s second largest urban area in the Dalmatia region after Dubrovnik and residence to k people.
The historical walled old town lays on the water’s edge and is a maze of pretty cobbled streets, beautiful buildings (including the famed Diocletian’s Palace), monuments and is also a great point from which to travel to the other islands along the coast.
In our gay instruction to Split we will cover how we establish the city as a gay couple, if a gay scene exists, contribute our experience of the gay beach, cover the best activities to execute in (and from) Split, where to stay and practical tips – we highly recommend that you visit!

Is Split Gay Friendly?
As a country, Croatia is not particularly well acknowledged for being progressive and gay friendly compared to other countries in Europe such as Spain.

Hvar: Where Hedonism Meets Adriatic Bliss
Hvar is where the pretty, the reckless, and the fabulous go to fail to remember the mainland exists. Unlike Croatia’s other islands, which might try to impress you with history and monasteries, Hvar says: “Here’s champagne. Here’s the sea. Don’t mess it up.” It’s flashy, unapologetic, and effortlessly queer-friendly.
Where to Party
🍾 Carpe Diem Beach Club – A boat takes you to a confidential island where the party only ends when the Adriatic swallows the last pair of sunglasses. DJs, high-energy crowds, and sailors who know how to let loose.
🍸 Ka’Lavanda – Chic, vibey, and filled with gay couples sipping espresso martinis and making prolonged eye contact.
🌙 Pink Champagne Club – The name says it all. Underground, indulgent, and fabulously unbothered.
The Beach Spot
🏝️ Jerolim Island – A limited sail from Hvar, this is where the genuine fun happens. Completely clothing-optional, wildly free-spirited, and filled with people who left their inhibitions back in town.
