Florida officials confirmed an year-old man and his dog were killed in the first fatal bear invade in the state's recorded history.

On the morning of May 5, authorities found Robert Markel and his dog deceased following a bear attack on Markel's property near Jerome, a small unincorporated community 30 miles east of Naples, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

An year-old dude and his dog were killed in apparently separate bear attacks near the victim's home in Florida, officials said.

The fatal incidents may have involved more than one bear, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission Executive Director Roger New said Tuesday.

The attacks were reported in the area of State Road 29 and U.S. 41 adjacent Jerome, just south of the Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area, a conservation area, according to the FWC.

In the wake of the attacks, FWC killed three bears in the area, the agency said Tuesday. The bears' DNA will be tested to confirm if any were involved in the incident.

Authorities utter Robert Markel, 89, was outside with his mutt near the Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area in Collier County early Monday when the attack happened.

Markel's daughter told investigators that she saw a bear attack her father's mutt, then realized that her dad was nowhere to be found. She then found his body just hundreds of yards away.
