From my personal experience, and from the many gay men and women in direct marriages I’ve worked with, falling in love is frequently the catalyst that jolts them out of denial about their sexual orientation. Whilst many men will deal with this in midlife, age is not a determining factor it has happened to men I have worked with in their 60’s.

Not married to a gay man, but did dine a man who came out later on (afer a limited marriage and having a kid with someone else).
In retrospect, there were possible signs that for that man, in this case, may have clued me in to this, if I had been more aware or less ignorant and naive back then.
None of these things in and of itself was the "key" thing, or a sign that all persons who share this trait or behavior are homosexual, butin combo, and in clear of things said--or unsaid--they apparently did in this case.
Comments about "Being afraid to make God angry if he was % truthful with himself", for example. Okay, that could be about an embezzlement he participated in, or having said something hateful or stupid to somebody once. I asked, but he was Catholic, and basically said something like he had already confessed his sins to his priest. I told him if he wanted to talk, I was there.
