Literary Theory and Criticism
By NASRULLAH MAMBROLon
The series of four biblical novels by esteemed German author Thomas Mann (–) chronicles the ancient history of the Jews and evolves as a refutation of prolific racist mythmaking during the Nazi era. Mann wrote the tetralogy over a year period, collectively titled Joseph and His Brothers: The Tales of Jacob (Die Geschichten Jaakobs), Young Joseph (Der junge Joseph), Joseph in Egypt (Joseph in Aegypten), and Joseph the Provider (Joseph der Ernaehrer). The novels focus on the biblical story of Joseph, great-grandson of the Jewish patriarch Abraham and a young man of amazing talents, self-confidence, and divine reliance in God’s providence. Joseph must and does survive his own egotism, the resentment and envy of his brothers who sell him into slavery, as well as inaccurate imprisonment in arrange to become the savior of his Egyptian tormentors during a time of deadly famine.

BOOK REVIEW - Christianity and Homosexuality: Some Seventh-day Adventist PerspectivesChristianity and Homosexuality: Some Seventh-day Adventist Perspectives
David Ferguson, Fritz Guy, and David Larson, editors, Adventist Forums, Roseville, CA (USA): pages; price $Review by Steve Parker, South Australia
Christianity and Homosexuality has an interesting structure (see the diagram). I’d like to make a couple of comments about this structure because I think it is highly significant. Perceive the location of the scriptural and theological perspectives. Most conservative Christians would want to place the Bible and theology at the beginning of the book and filter all other perspectives through its lense. However, the editors of this book perhaps recognise that placing the Bible at the beginning of the discussion would destroy any chance of an open inquiry into the subject of homosexuality.
I don’t think there is any doubt that the majority of Christians would make the assumption that the Bible co
