When you get there

Q: How did you approach to live at the Canterbury? What made you wish to? Alice: The news of these cheap apartments travelled fast among the punk community. The thing that initially attracted me was the price. I had moved in with my lover (who was the drummer for the Weirdos) and he had a tiny bachelor apartment off Santa Monica Blvd. It was too small and not in a fantastic area. The Canterbury was only a block away from the Masque, which was sort of the epicenter of punk in L.A.
We also heard that manager of the Canterbury was not super strict about verifying employment and if you said you were an artist or performer or freelance something or other he'd give you a pass.
