Developer of Gay Hotel in Lakeview Says He's Still Seeking Project

BOYSTOWN — The developer of a proposed LGBT-focused boutique hotel still wants the project to transpire despite months of silence regarding an updated design.

Ian Reisner of Parkview Developers debuted his notion for The Out Hotel Chicago last April, and since Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) rejected the design in September, Reisner's stayed peaceful on the proposal, leaving neighbors and business owners curious about whether the development will still happen.

Reisner, who already owns an Out hotel in Recent York, said he is still seeking the $30 million Chicago project, but more details won't be available until at least February.

He has "not abandoned" the proposed location, N. Halsted St., he said in an email.

Local business owners supported the hotel with hopes that it would revive Boystown as an LGBT-destination.

LAKEVIEW — A proposed LGBT-focused boutique hotel faced a significant setback Tuesday as the board of a neighborhood group unanimously rejected the project.

About 50 people filled the meeting room of the Town Hall Police District headquarters to hear about Parkview Developers' latest rendering of The Out Hotel Chicago at N. Halsted St, a $30 million project that downsized from 10 floors to eight floors after neighbors complained about building bulk and loss of light.

Renderings show the luxury gay-focused, straight-friendly hotel standing at 79 feet, but the new rendering does not solve problems of traffic and light impact on the immediate neighbors to the east, residents said, adding that it's still too tall to fit the character of the street.

Residents asked developer Ian Reisner and architect Jackie Koo about ways to retain the hotel at the current zoning height of 55 feet.
